About

Agrolino Grains and Oilseeds traces its roots back to a family-owned business engaged in agricultural activities since 1976. Established in September 2011 in Istanbul, Agrolino restructured its partnership model to align with its strategic goals in 2022 after 11 successful years in business. As of 2023, the Agrolino brand is continuing to fulfill its founding purpose of connecting the Turkish agriculture industry with global markets from its new headquarters in Ankara, where it aims to be closer to both its customers and the country's primary ports

Sunflower

Sunflower seeds
Turkey is among the major producers and importers of sunflower seeds. Annually around 1.6 million metric tons of sunflower seeds are produced over a land area of 650,000 hectares. Thrace, Black Sea, Mediterranean, Central and Southeastern Anatolia regions host the major sunflower production in Turkey. Turkey’s sunflower seed import accounts for 800,000 metric tons annually and Russian Federation, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, Moldova and Romania are among the major providers.

Sunflower oil
Sunflower oil is the highest consumed vegetable oil in Turkey with figures reaching up to 1 million metric tons a year. In average, Turkey imports about 1 million metric tons of crude sunflower oil annually mainly from Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Russian Federation. Given its geographical location and high capacity of its crushing facilities, Turkey is at the same time a sunflower oil exporting country. An average amount of 600,000 metric tons of sunflower oil is exported annually mainly to Iraq, African Countries, as well as to Syria, China, European Union and Israel. 

Sunflower meal
Turkey imports annually 1 million metric tons of sunflower meal as cattle and poultry feed mainly from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Russian Federation.

Wheat

Turkey is the world's nineth largest wheat producer with about 21 million tons of annual production. Scattered across the country, most of the wheat production is concentrated in Central and Southeastern Anatolia regions as well as Thrace, Cukurova and Harran. While, Turkey is a wheat exporting country, it also imports high quality wheat from the European Union member countries as well as from U.S.A., the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Australia, Mexico, Canada and Kazakhstan as well as Baltic States. Out of 21 million tones of wheat, Turkey produces about 4 million tons of high quality durum wheat for pasta, bulgur and couscous production. In addition to Italy, Turkey exports durum wheat to Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.


Durum wheat

Turkey is one of the biggest durum wheat producer in the world along with Canada and Italy. Out of 30-35 million tons of world durum wheat production, Turkey produceses about 4.2 million tons. Canada and Turkey are the biggest exporter of durum wheat. Moreover, as the price gap between milling and durum wheat increases in favour of durum, Turkey may become the world's biggest durum wheat producer in the coming year.

Cotton

Turkey is the sixth in the world rank for cotton production with her annual production of 1,350,000 metric tons covering an area of 450,000 hectares land. Turkey also produces about 250,000 metric tons of cotton seed oil as a cooking oil and animal feed supplies.

Palm

Palm oil and palm kernel is world's largest produced vegetable oil with an annual production of 90 million metric tons. By far Indonesia and Malaysia are the largest palm oil producers in the world. In average, Turkey imports 700,000 metric tons of palm oil every year which is used mainly in the food industry as well as in cosmetics, and chemical industry.

Pulses

Turkey is a major producer, exporter as well as an importer of pulses. Around 1.2 million hectares of agricultural land is used for production of pulses. With 504,000 hectares, chickpea has the largest share, followed by lentil with 389,000 hectares, haricot bean with 109,000 hectares, broad bean with 11,000 hectares, black-eyed peas with 3,000 hectares and peas with 1,300 hectares. Annually around 1.2 million metric tons of pulses are produced in Turkey. Chickpea accounts for 41.4 percent, lentil for 43.8 percent, haricot bean for 12.6 percent, broad bean for 1.7 percent and peas and black-eyed peas for 0.5 percent.

Soya

Soya bean
Turkey produces annually 110,000 metric tons of soya beans in a land area of 30,000 hectares. Çukurova and Black Sea regions are the main soya bean growing areas in Turkey, supplying about 90 percent of Turkey's soya crop. Turkish imports of soy bean is in the range of 3.2 million metric tons a year mainly from the U.S.A, Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina, Russia and Ukraine. 

Soya bean oil
Soya bean oil, an 18-20 percent processed product of soya beans, is widely used in Turkey as a feed supplies and it is also partially used as cooking oil. 

Soya bean meal
Produced at a rate of 73 percent as a result of soya bean processing, the soybean meal is particularly used as poultry feed. Turkey is a major importer of soybean meal with an annual quantity of 1.3 million metric tons from Argentina, Ukraine and the U.S.A.

Sugar

With her first sugar factory established back in 1926 in Kirklareli, Turkey currently has 33 sugar factories of which 15 are state - owned with a total annual production capacity of 3 million metric tons. Sugar cane accounts for 82% of world's overall sugar production due to its lower costs. In Turkey, however, sugar is produced from sugar beet. Given its lower chances for competition in export markets, most of the sugar beet production in Turkey targets to meet domestic demand. In sugar beet production, Turkey holds fourth place in the world after the European Union, U.S.A. and Russian Federation. Compared to the European Union member countries, she holds the third place after France and Germany and also third within the European continent after European Union and Russian Federation.

Canola

Canola seed production in Turkey is around 100,000 metric tons annually and covers a land area of 30,000 hectares. The demand for canola in Turkey has an increasing trend mainly due to the requirements for mandatory use of bio-diesel in the vehicle fuels and due to the use of canola seed meal as animal feed.

Corn

Turkey produces about 8 million metric tons of corn a year. In addition to that, Turkey imports considerable amount of corn for its feed, semolina and starch producers.

Durum wheat

Turkey is one of the biggest durum wheat producer in the world along with Canada and Italy. Out of 30-35 million tons of world durum wheat production, Turkey produceses about 4.2 million tons. Pasta

Turkey stands as one of the world's major pasta producers and ranks as the second-largest pasta exporter globally. With an annual export volume of 1.3 million tons, Turkey has emerged as a significant pasta supplier to numerous countries worldwide. Notably, Japan, the USA, Canada, Taiwan, China, Israel, and several African countries are among the largest buyers of Turkish pasta.

Saban Buttanri

Saban Buttanri is the Chairperson and the CEO of Agrolino Grains and Oilseeds. Saban Buttanri brings in to Agrolino his 30 years of diplomatic, risk management and supply chain management background in international as well as corporate world.

He began his career in 1992. Throughout these years, Saban Buttanrı worked in executive positions in several United Nations organizations in different parts of the world ranging from Australia and Far East to South East and Eastern Europe, Balkans and the Middle East.
